QEQI / APPLICATION

RO pretreatment

RO pretreatment must follow membrane requirements and feed-water analysis. Evaluate any additional treatment against the existing process and an agreed monitoring plan.

01 / THE ASSESSMENT

Begin with the operating context.

Evaluate the feed water and the existing membrane process.

  • Feed-water analysis
  • Existing pretreatment
  • Membrane and operating requirements
02 / SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Products to assess for this application.

03 / VALIDATION

Agree on what to measure.

Record the baseline and compare equivalent operating conditions over an agreed period.

Treatment boundaries

Do not replace required membrane pretreatment or claim a water-quality guarantee.

04 / PROJECT CONTEXT

Start a useful conversation.

  • Feed-water analysis
  • Existing pretreatment
  • Membrane and operating requirements

A useful project record includes equipment configuration, operating baseline and the agreed monitoring period.

05 / APPLICATION FAQ

From configuration to daily operation.

Practical considerations for this application, its existing treatment and performance review.

Does electronic treatment replace RO pretreatment?

Retain the pretreatment required by the membrane supplier and process design. Electronic treatment can only be considered within a site-specific assessment; it is not a universal replacement for filtration, softening, antiscalant dosing or other feedwater controls.

What feedwater information is needed?

Provide a current water analysis, feed flow and temperature, recovery, membrane type and existing pretreatment. Identify whether the concern is mineral scaling, particulate fouling or biological fouling. Different causes require different evidence and process controls.

How should a membrane-system evaluation be documented?

Use the membrane supplier's method to compare normalised performance, pressure drop, cleaning history and permeate quality. Log feedwater and operating changes throughout the period. A trial should not imply guaranteed membrane-life extension or permission to change required controls.

ENGINEERING INPUT / SELECTION CRITERIA

A specification is only the starting point.

A useful configuration connects product ratings to the actual operating environment.

Assessment areaSite informationEngineering decision
Pipework & connectivityOutside / nominal diameter, material, branches and closed electrical loopsModel fit, clearance and signal conditions
Hydraulic conditionsFlow, circulation path, pump position and available pressureInstallation location and filtration configuration

Electronic scale control, particle separation and water-quality compliance are separate responsibilities. A site may need several coordinated processes. Neither scale control nor filtration universally replaces softening, membrane treatment, disinfection or chemical management.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION / MEASUREMENT

Make the operating evidence comparable.

01

Establish a baseline

Record equipment, deposits, cleaning intervals and existing water-treatment practice before changes.

02

Track operating conditions

Record load, flow, temperature, water quality and any parallel process changes during the observation period.

03

Review defined indicators

Compare cleaning records, pressure drop, heat-transfer behaviour or solids collection as appropriate to the application.

04

Attribute results carefully

Separate measured results, operator observations and financial estimates. Do not assume every change comes from one device.
