QEQI / APPLICATION

Boilers & hot water

Select the appropriate configuration around the equipment feed and system conditions, with maintenance and leak inspection in mind.

01 / THE ASSESSMENT

Begin with the operating context.

Evaluate the feed, equipment and installation limits.

  • Heater or boiler type
  • Cold-feed pipe outside diameter
  • Water quality and existing deposits
02 / SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Products to assess for this application.

03 / VALIDATION

Agree on what to measure.

Record the baseline and compare equivalent operating conditions over an agreed period.

Treatment boundaries

Existing scale removal can expose old leaks. Follow equipment requirements and retain required feed-water treatment.

04 / PROJECT CONTEXT

Start a useful conversation.

  • Heater or boiler type
  • Cold-feed pipe outside diameter
  • Water quality and existing deposits

A useful project record includes equipment configuration, operating baseline and the agreed monitoring period.

05 / APPLICATION FAQ

From configuration to daily operation.

Practical considerations for this application, its existing treatment and performance review.

Is selection based on building size or the actual pipework?

Building size helps describe demand, but selection starts with the installation pipe and connected equipment. Check outside diameter, branches, temperature, circulation and heating capacity. Q39's 38.1 mm OD limit should not be interpreted as a rating for a particular number of rooms or bathrooms.

Do recirculation loops need a separate review?

Include the cold feed, heater, return loop and branches in the pipework review. Confirm the proposed installation point against the model instructions and inspect metal connections for closed electrical loops. A domestic installation example should not be applied automatically to a large recirculating system.

Does scale control change hygiene requirements?

Continue the temperature management, flushing, inspection and microbial controls required for the building. Scale control is assessed against deposits and equipment operation; it is not a demonstration of potable-water safety or a substitute for a water-hygiene programme.

ENGINEERING INPUT / SELECTION CRITERIA

A specification is only the starting point.

A useful configuration connects product ratings to the actual operating environment.

Assessment areaSite informationEngineering decision
Pipework & connectivityOutside / nominal diameter, material, branches and closed electrical loopsModel fit, clearance and signal conditions
Hydraulic conditionsFlow, circulation path, pump position and available pressureInstallation location and filtration configuration
Water & processHardness, suspended solids, temperature and existing treatmentTreatment roles and processes to retain

Electronic scale control, particle separation and water-quality compliance are separate responsibilities. A site may need several coordinated processes. Neither scale control nor filtration universally replaces softening, membrane treatment, disinfection or chemical management.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION / MEASUREMENT

Make the operating evidence comparable.

01

Establish a baseline

Record equipment, deposits, cleaning intervals and existing water-treatment practice before changes.

02

Track operating conditions

Record load, flow, temperature, water quality and any parallel process changes during the observation period.

03

Review defined indicators

Compare cleaning records, pressure drop, heat-transfer behaviour or solids collection as appropriate to the application.

04

Attribute results carefully

Separate measured results, operator observations and financial estimates. Do not assume every change comes from one device.
